Abstract

In this keynote address to a TWP audience, the author argues that how we tell a story, and who is telling it, profoundly shape its ultimate meaning.  He further argues that we need to ask, “what came before?” and to start a story from the begging, as opposed to the middle or end.  This, he argues, will impact how we tell and understand the history of the transatlantic trade in trafficked Africans; and he encourages the gathered African-Caribbean audience, and wider readers, to ensure they are raising their voices and accurately telling their own stories.
